| Coat: The Great Dane has a short, somewhat coarse coat. They can be a variety of colors and patterns. |
Care: Occasional brushing to remove dead hairs, bathe only when needed. |
Characteristics: The Great Dane is truly a gentle giant. They are friendly, loyal, loving, and affectionate. They will generally do well with children and other pets; care should be taken because of the Great Danes' size. Danes should not live outdoors; they are very sensitive and require much attention or they will become depressed. Despite thier size they should live inside as a part of the family. |
Temperament: The Great Dane is usually a very even tempered dog. They will warn against strangers but they should not be aggressive; although most will be scared of the size. They do not require alot of activity or alot of space. They do well as apartment dogs. |
Training: Because of a Great Dane's size they need to be trained early to walk on a leash. They will not take well to harsh training; patience with this breed is key. The enjoy making their owners happy, and will rarely test you. |
Health Concerns: Hip dysplasia, genetic heart problems, osteosarcoma, Wobblers, and bloat. |
